Staff

Jenice Miller

Jenice has been sewing for 34 years and quilting for 4 years, but she got so hooked on quilting that she's produced dozens of quilts in a short time. She's been long-arm quilting for 3 years and is self-taught. Jenice loves machine embroidery and incorporates it in her quilts. She hopes to motivate and inspire everyone to use their imagination and creativity to produce wonderful quilts and garments. She loves to learn new things and will teach and/or inspire everyone.

Darlene Martin

Darlene not only champions our community service projects but also is our Queen of Machine Appliqué. She also works in the shop one to two days a week and always adds a smile to your day. Darlene is very good at calculating yardage and choosing color palettes for quilts. She is our senior employee and has been with the shop many years.

Midge Miller

Midge has been in the quilting industry for years. She does the mastery classes for the Bernina machines and is terrific in choosing the right colors for your quilts. You can always depend on Midge to answer all the questions you have, whether it be machine-related, technical, color combinations, hand quilting, or just about anything. She has a wealth of information about nearly everything. Even though she's not related to Jenice, she shares the same last name, and is certainly Jenice's "right-hand".

Kay Kirby

Kay does magnificent hand appliqué. She is an extremely accurate cutter and is often called upon to cut kits. She makes many samples for the shop as well as occasionally teaching Hand Appliqué. Kay works in the shop a day or two a week.

Instructors

Debbie Chancellor

Debbie joins to us with a wealth of embroidery and software expertise. She has been quilting and doing machine embroidery for years, and looks forward to meeting and seeing all of you in her classes.

Barb Dulin-Ayers

Barb is the leader of our Bernina Club and Bernina Embroidery Club. these clubs both meet once a month. She introduces new feet and techniques for the Bernina Club and gives students the opportunity for hands-on experience in Bernina Embroidery Club. Barb is familiar with many other machines so our "Bernina" clubs are not limited to Bernina sewing machines.

Miriam Brake

Miriam teaches many classes and techniques in our shop. Her longest running class is the Beginners' Machine Piecing class which takes a very beginner and leads them to accomplished piecer status. She also teaches Beninners' Machine Quilting, and various other techniques. She and co-teacher Edie Starcher designed a great Jungle Quilt that Miriam incorporated piecing, design, and thread painting. She thoroughly enjoys working with beginners.

Susan Nash

Susan has a sense of design and preference for handwork makes her a "natural" for designing and teaching Crazy Quilt projects. She also teaches our Dear Jane Sewing Circle which focuses totally on miniature blocks. She has a gift for creating memorable handouts and her frequent "surprise drawings" make her a favorite with our students.

Karen Phillips-Shwallon

Karen is so creative in her design work and so patient with students. She introduces new stitches and techniques every month in her Dimensional Appliqué classes. When you meet Karen, your first impression is "what a nice Lady," and that impression only improves as you become acquainted with her. Karen is a national instructor much sought after for her original designs. She will also be teaching a unique Sampler Quilt class in the near future.

Shirley Stutz

Shirley is the epitome of a grand teacher. She has created some absolutely astounding quilts. She is often a winner at National Quilt Shows and is the author of Elegant Lone Star Quilts and is about to bring out her newest book featuring Six Point Stars. Shirley is nationally known for her teaching. There is never a moment in her classes that are not learning experiences and she is never too busy to help students.
